In commemoration of World Environment Day 2019, the ACT SMART AND GREEN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (ASGCF) carried out a series of impactful environmental advocacy campaigns focused on combating air pollution and promoting sustainable environmental practices in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The awareness campaign was actively conducted at Mile 3 Market, Port Harcourt, and through a radio outreach session on 99.5 WISH FM, where members of ASGCF engaged the public on the major causes and dangers of air pollution within society. During the advocacy program, emphasis was placed on harmful practices such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, open burning of waste, and excessive use of fossil fuels, all of which contribute significantly to environmental degradation and public health challenges. ASGCF also educated members of the public on innovative ways to convert waste into wealth through recycling, proper waste management, and renewable energy solutions. The campaign encouraged individuals and communities to adopt environmentally friendly habits that support cleaner air and a healthier society. Through these sensitization efforts, ASGCF continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development with the ultimate aim of structuring a better society for present and future generations. The ACT SMART AND GREEN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION continues to make remarkable strides in its mission to build a safer and healthier society through sustained advocacy against drug abuse among young people. As part of its ongoing sensitization campaign, ASGCF successfully carried out educational outreach programs in several secondary schools across Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The campaign focused on enlightening students about the dangers of drug abuse, its long-term effects on individuals and society, and the importance of making responsible life choices. One of the major outreach events was held at University Demonstration Secondary School on Thursday, 16th May 2019. During the session, students were educated extensively on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the way forward in combating the growing menace among youths. Members of ASGCF delivered impactful lectures backed with robust knowledge and practical guidance. The program also featured a representative from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency who provided professional insights on drug-related issues and answered several questions raised by students. The campaign further extended to University of Port Harcourt International Secondary School, where ASGCF continued its advocacy efforts with engaging discussions aimed at encouraging students to stay away from substance abuse and embrace positive values that contribute to nation-building. ASGCF also visited Enitonna High School, one of the oldest schools in Rivers State, where students received enlightening talks on the dangers associated with drug abuse and the importance of living responsibly. In continuation of the campaign, the foundation reached out to students of Government Comprehensive Secondary School with a strong message emphasizing that “in the real sense, we do not just abuse drugs, but drugs abuse us.” ASGCF remains committed to expanding this advocacy campaign to more schools and communities as part of its vision to structure a better society through awareness, education, and positive social impact.
